Sunday January 3rd 1886 It poured down rain the entire day. It was nearly noon when we got through breakfast and did not get dinner till four oclock. While we were eating John & Hatt came over and they stayed till eight oclock. We could not go down to Aunt Libs today. Monday January 4th 1886 It had grown colder and stopped raining this morning. I was busy about the house most of the forenoon and talked with Will in the parlor after dinner till time for us to go over to town for supper which we ate at Hatts. Ott was there too. Will started east on the eight oclock train. Ott brought me home at nine oclock. We got word from Charlie that Ida has a boy baby. Tuesday January 5th 1886 It was late before we got up this morning and I did not get much done before noon. I made some aprons out of old stuff and worked some on my edging [the following is written vertically in the right margin of the text entered above] Mother is sixty years old today. Wednesday January 6th 1886 It was a pleasant winter day and we had Mrs Swartz wash for us. I worked a little in the afternoon. And in the evening we all but Lee went to Carneys for a surprise party as it was Mr C- birthday. It was a complete surprise to him and a most enjoyable evening for us all.
