3 Tupelo Mip July 15th 1864 Being out of Rations our forces cornered leaving the place the 3d Brigade of 1st Div was left to cover the movement. The Rebels seeing the state of affairs attacked us in our old position but with more caution then before. We again charged them witho ut firing a gun, driving them in complete demor alization from our front. We then commenced our Return to Memphis march ing 8 miles to old Town and encamped for the night The loss in 12th Iowa for 3 days is 64 killed & wounded [vertical writing left hand margin - illegible]
