16 Memphis Tennesee July 28th 1864 Thursday I wrote a letter to James Henderson sen. We Recd the sad news of the death of Gen Mcpherson Commander of the Department of Tennesee, at the Battle of Atlanta July 20th 64 I procured quinine & Spiritus Fermente which I took for chill fever every 4 hours, cleaned up my gun & [countrements?] today & ready for another move. filled up my morning report book from the tim we left Memphis on the late expedition to present date Played a few games with Capt Cook. & O. Sykes. I got milk & Joseph Baker got meal & we had a good supper of mush & milk tonight
