17 Memphis Tennesee July 29th 1864 Friday Capt Cook, Sergt Grannis and Corporals Ketchum & Private A C. Bushnell were detailed to go on Recruiting Service to the 46th Iowa at Colliersville and procure recruits for the 12th Iowa, from that Regt. I wrote a letter to Mr Malcolm McKenzie in answer to his of March 24th 1864. I Recd a letter from Father today dated July 20th. The loss of Rebel officers at Tupelo were Colonels Cage, Harrison, McKay, Nelson & Shewall killed. Wounded Gen Forest, Colonels McCullough, Cole, Rueken Crossland & Faulkner
