21 Cold Water Mississippi August 2nd 1864 Tuesday Marched from our Camp on the cold water to Holly Springs Miss 6 miles. the 12th Iowa was sent into the place in advance for Provost Service We took up our quarters in the Court House. Sent out the Guarde to the different parts of the city. & then the other troops were marched through to their Respective Camps. a very strict order against pillaging is enforced this is or has been a very pretty place before the Ravages of war scathed it. some prisoners were Captured today being surprised by our advance
