25 Holly Springs Miss August 6th 1864 Saturday Our Regiment seems to give great Satisfaction to the Inhabitants of this place who seem to feel as much at ease when asshamed by the officers as [illegible] that they and their Property will be Respected, and in many cases the women have asked our men to stay in their houses while in Town as a safe guard from our Negro Troops of whom they stand in great fear. I visited James Henderson today at the Camp of 27th Iowa near this place. I got a lot of fine peaches from William Jordan.
