31 Talla Hatchie River C.R.R. August 12th. 1864 Friday I wrote a letter & mailed to Mrs. C.J. Henderson this morning before breakfast. The weather is moderately cool with some Showers. When our Regiment left Holly Springs to come to the front they expressed regret at our leaving them & urged us to visit them if ever any of us came that way, & they would welcome us. as men who Revered their Country & [protector?] in their [?] notwithstanding they are our avowed enemies. I have never before seen so straightforward a people as those of Holly Springs
