33 Talla Hatchie River Miss August 14th 1864 Sunday Mr M Elvain of our Co. has a great faculty of telling stories in Illustration of every Subject. He told several good ones to day. one the drunken Husband. another Jane Bowers and her ride on exibition. another the [Hibrate?] polition and His [?] [state?] of all Reform &c. Heard a good sermon to day by Chaplin Humphry I wrote a long better to Jane to day. Capt Cook & party Returned to night from Recruiting Service in 46th Iowa. they had very poor success, as the officers hope to Reorganize. & the men are Homesick. they only got 4 men for 12th. had a letter from Davis per Cook He got my A. [Genation?] & will take it Home for me
