39 Camp of 12th Iowa Abbeville Miss August 20th 1864 Saturday The rain stoped to day about 9 A.M. the Roads are entirely impassable for Trains and Artilery; so the expedition is indefinately postponed in consequence. our Regiment went out after Roasting Corn, the order being that 250 was Required before they could go outside the line for any purpose. so it took the entire Regiment as a foraging party. we have several good meals of green corn or hard corn. I am still very disagreably affected by the swelling of my face & limbs. the Boys are playing marbls & other games for amusement
