48 Davis Creek Miss August 29th. 1864 Monday Before leaving Holly Springs yesterday I procured a Book "Entitled a place in the memory" by Mrs S.H. De Kroyft" which I indend as a Present to Mrs C J. Henderson. We marched this morning at 7 and Reached our old Camp near La Grange at at 10 A.M. 5 miles. I procured a pass to Collierville & went down on a train before the Regt. to have a short visit with David Henderson & Edwin Durro. the trai did not stop so I jumped off all right; & found the Boys David well & Ed getting better from a fit of sickness
