60 Duvalls Bluff Arkansas September 10th. 1864 Saturday The Division marched to day at 2 o clock P.M. for Brownsville 30 miles Distant on the Road to Little Rock There is scarcely any water for the entire distance except green ponds. &c we marched untill 12 P.M. a distance of 21 miles, and nearly or quite half of the Division stragled & slept on the prairie. The Prairie is very Beautifull to look at. But notwithstanding the [fine?] rank grass it is for this season of the year very dry, and in Reality a beautifull desert, great suffering for want of water
