62 Brownsville Arkansas Sept 12th. 1864 Monday The Division Rested, washed itself, and drew 5 days Rations. We are encamped in a very fine grove of Timber 2 miles from the Villiage of Brownsville the cool shade is very pleasant at this time. Our men have got a very good Shebang raised some from the Ground. under the shad of some fine hickery trees. to day I enjoyed my self Reading the Novelette of "the Viscounti or Barbarigo the Stranger" By Burdick. No mail has Reached us since we left Memphis on the 2d. But plenty of grapevine Reports of great victories for our armies.
