66 Camp 12th. Iowa Brownsville Arkansas Sept 16th. 1864 Friday I last night Recd 3 letters two from Mrs C.J. Henderson and one from S.L. Durro. The unexpected news of Mary M Maynard leaving for Ills. with little Howard Millne. I Recd the first letter Mary ever wrote last night in one of Janes to me. I wrote another letter to Jane to day with regard to Mary, It is now 3 years since our Company Enlisted & since then we have lost 57 men from all Causes, 28 have been shot in Battle 6 of whom have died on the field, 24 Discharged for disabilty by wounds & disease, one Deserted, 45 of the old Company are left 13 Recruits are added, Total 58
