70 On The march in Arkansas Sept 20th. 1864 Tuesday Moved out this morning at sun rise, & marched untill 2 oclock Through a very Rough & stoney tract of Country, went in to Camp in a very Romantic Valley surrounded by Hills after a march of 15 miles. I have seen one school House to day or something of that sort, and there seemed to be an adition of rough logs out doors to serve as a meeting House on extra ocasions. I see very few Inhabitants & those mostly Women who look very cadeverous & care worn, & more like half Rended Tallow, then the most beautifull creation of God
