71 On the March in Arkansas Sept 21st. 1864 Wensday Marched 23 miles to day over a very Rough & Rocky Country which I think must be the spur of the Ozark Mountains and for 10 miles the ground was so stoney that it was dificult to find enough of ground Clear of Rocks for a man to streach Himself on, the only Villiage on the rout was Jainsvillle, where a man of the 17th pennsilvania Cavelry shot Himself in the abdomen while breaking open a Trunk with His Revolver; a lesson to plunderers. We Camped on the Bank of White River Eqidistant from Batesville & Jacksonville
