72 On the march in Arkansas Sept 22d 1864 Thursday Commenced the passage of the River at daylight. The Infantry striping to the waist and wading, the water Reaching to the Hips, the River at this point is very swift. We Continued the march towards Black River for 16 miles. our Train got stuck in a swamp at a Creek 2 miles south of Black River and we had to Byvovack in the swamp on each side of our Train. and although the ground was wet and muddy we could get no water to make Coffee so we went supperless to bed. all are very tired & Hungary
