74 On the March in Arkansas Sept 24th. 1864 Saturday Marched this morning at 6 A.M. up the East Bank of Black River. on the line of march was a good farming lands and many fine fields of Corn & Cotton. & on the left next the River, Cypress swamps & pawpaw groves which suplied the men with ripe pawpaws in abundance, marched 19 miles and Camped in the Bank of the River at 4 P.M, to give time for the Rear to Come up before dark as the Enemy are in strong force on our Right flank
