75 On the March in Arkansas Sept 25th. 1864 Sunday Resumed the march early this morning our Brigade in front. our march to day lay through a very fine tract of Country along the Bank of Black fork of White River. The long march begins to tell on the men, many of them are bare footed and Ragged, foot sore & lame. My left foot pains me Considerable at the joint of large toe where an old Cut injured the bone, otherwise I stand the trip finely. We marched 23 miles to day and Camped on the River at Pocahontas at 4 o clock P.M. I find that my Coffee is invaluable to me on those long marches
