76 On the March in Arkansas Sept 26th. 1864 Monday marched 18 miles to day still up the East Bank of the River. We Could not ford the River at Pocahontas so the march was Continued on thus. the Roads are getting bad & the Cypress swamps have frequently to be Crossed. The settlements here are very scarce & the few women & Children we see look the picture of despair with thier half naked desease wasted limbs. The weather is Cooler an evidence of a Clder Climat Price, Shely & Marmaduke & Dobbins all met at Pocahontas
