77 On the March in Arkansas Sept 27th. 1864 Tuesday Continued the march towards the state of Mo, still on the same side of the river, We marched through a very Heavy Rain all forenoon which drenched the men & made the Roads very bad which are never very good in the swamps we passed today. Marched however 16 miles, and built large fires & Commenced the drying process. Cooking drawing Rations, Killing the Beef that have been picked up during the day by our foraging parties &p,&p. Night very Cold
