82 On the march in Missouri October 1st. 1864 Saturday We got onely 3 hours sleep. Which is very nearly the average hours of sleep for the last 2 weeks. the rain fell in torents last night, and all forenoon we got wet in bed we got wetter eating breakfast, and we got wetest on the march, and muddy tired, and lame, But we marched 11 miles through awfull Roads and would have gone farther But our Mule Train is nearly fagged out. I never knew be fore that men Can stand more hardship than mules but that is the Case here.
