85 On the March in Missouri October 4th. 1864 Tuesday We Are now 50 miles from the Cape and the last of our Rations are issued to us onely two Hard Tack per man for the Rest of the trip. & we must be in Cape Girardeau in two days, so we moved out early and marched Rappidly through a very Heavey Rain Storm. & Encamped on the White water after a very hard days march of 32 miles. passing through Dallas a Ruined Villiage. a fine Macdamished Road Runs from Dallas to the Cape. Many of the mules and Horses gave out to day & were left to die
