86 On the March in Missouri October 5th 1864 Wendsday We were next at this place, the white water with a supply of Crackers, and then started at 9 oclock A.M. and marched to Cape Girandeau 20 miles by 5 p.M. and Encamped near the City. this compets the trip 19 days. marching from Duvals Bluff the entire distance being Three Hundred & Twenty five (325) miles from Duval's Bluff. We are all tired dirty, Ragged, lame, But un Conquered still. of the entire distance I rode onely 3 miles and that was when I had the fever after a shake of ague while in the Black River Swamps
