87 Cape Girardeau on Missouri, October 6th 1864 Thursday Rested in Camp today. Making reports for the month of September. Requisitions for clothing etc. and preparations generally for the field as rapidly as possible. Our entire train of mules have been turned over as unfit for further service having used them up completely the last few days of the march they died at the rate of 30 daily. The Captains and 10 of our company were lame foot, and half the Reg't were in the same fix and all need shoes and trowsers. I wrote a letter to Mrs. E.J. Henderson. i had to borrow some money to get paper, envelopes etc.
