91 Steamer. Empire City St Louis Mo. October 10th. 1864 Monday as the Clothing and supplies have been Drawn and Issued, our Boat left the St Louis Levee at 9 oclock A.M. on route for Jefferson City the State Capital where the Invading army of General Price is operating. We entered the Missouri River about 1 oclock P.M. with a fleet of Boats all loaded with the Troops of the 1st Division 16th. A.C. I procured $2,00 Cash of My Comrad Sergt Hutchins last night, with which I got paper stamps & envelopes for My necessary Corespondence, and some Bread Cheese &c. for my physicial nessesaties. The navigation of the streams very dificult and the waters, dark & [turbies?]
