94 Boat Empire City Mo River October 13th. 1864 Thursday Our old Boat Came up this morning and picked us up. and we paid particular attention to our haversacks for the first 4 miles, Joseph Baker of our mess was left on the Boat, and He was considerate enough in view of our 24 hours fast, to have a fine mess of soup ready for us Composed of Beans & Hard Tack, seasoned with potatoes & onions, the potatoe seasoning was furnished by the sanitary society of St Louis at the Rate of two potatos per man for one meal for two days one meal a day, so we Resumed the Consumption of our Rations, while our Boat Resumed its amusement of wheeling on snags to night 90 miles by River from St. Louis
