Tuesday December 30th 1884. I was at home all the forenoon. Ott went west on the forenoon train. Will, Hattie and I went down to Uncle Jims in the afternoon and stayed till after eight oclock and came home in a rain storm. Wednesday December 31st 1884. It was a very cold day. I was at home all day till just before supper time. Will and I walked over town. We ate supper at Hatties and spent the evening at Chalfonts. There was other company there and we had a very pleasant time in deed staying to watch the old year out. The old year! how much of joy and sorrow it has brought to me. In the year past I have known the deepest grief of my life in losing my beloved brother Rob, so deep a sorrow can never be out lived, and I can but daily pray for strength to bear it. In the [limits?] of this year has been given to me the best love of a noble honorable man whom I love and trust most sincerely, God bless our future years!
