John L. Coffin, Land Agent. Mortgages Negotiated. Offices: Davenport, Iowa. 36 Kilby St., Boston. Davenport, June 3d 1872 H. C. Crane, Esq. N.Y. Dear Sir While at Council Bluffs last week I looked into your 80 acres adjoining the Transit Co. grounds in the West. The Railroad runs through the center of it -- East & West. The Transit Co. [own?] about 1.000 acres, costing $300-- an acre -- No transactions in that vicinity at present, but it seems as though the property is a good investment @ $300 -- I presume you are [posted on?] the above facts, and I have arrangements with W P Dodge to take [charge?], & acquaint me with any movement in that quarter -- But little land selling in Iowa -- immigrants having a fallacious idea that Nebraska and Kansas offer better advantages, whereas experience has proved that this state is the best in the west for farmers -- Yours truly Jno L Coffin
