John L. Coffin, Land Agent. Mortgages Negotiated. Offices: Davenport, Iowa. 130 State St., Boston. Davenport, March 7 1873 Thomas C. Durant, Esq. New York Dear Sir, I enclose your account current, showing balance to your debit, $449.80 and also statement of lands, notes &c on hand, showing estimated value $24,964 19/100 I shall probably collect enough this month to cover the balance due me, which arises from having to pay the '72 taxes before the 1st inst, to save [costs?] -- Mony is very scarce and produce unusually low, which accounts for the past due notes on hand, and the infrequent sales of lands. The old Engine appears to be unsaleable & is pronounced by reliable mechanics as only fit for breaking up and melting, in this region -- Yours truly Jno L. Coffin
