Box 3106 Boston, July 19th, 1873 H C Crane, Esq 20 Nassau Street -- NY Dear Sir, In answer to your telegram of this date "Shall I sign Marengo map by Power of Attorney" I have wired back "Yes -- Make the certificate of acknowledgement to confirm" -- which, you will no doubt see how to do by the reading -- and you will have to send your Power of Attorney to Davenport to be recorded in Iowa Co -- I supposed the Doctor was at home, as I saw something in the paper about smuggling or something of that sort which led me to think so -- Yours truly Jno L.
