from the City of Pekin, Ill. Not being adapted to the business of tilling the soil, I have been officiating for the past 3 years as County Surveyor. I am naturally a mathematician--am acquainted with all the higher branches of the Mathematics, theoretically & practically, & take great delight in tracing out the laws & intricacies of Mathematical Science etc-- Now, sir, if you can discover that I am related to you, by blood, or otherwise, or if you desire the services of a steady, reliable, efficient, industrious, man, in any capacity, either in an office as calculator, bookkeeper, etc, or as Civil Engineer along the line of any R.R., or as conductor or superintendant, etc, I will agree to give up farming & County Surveying, and be at your Service--provided it will pay--that is enable me to maintain myself & family (for I am 46 years of age, & have a wife & several children) and leave a little surplus to lay up against a time of need. In conclusion, I should be pleased to receive a reply from you, at an early date. Yours very respectfully Marcus Durant.
