NY Dec 22/70 Thos. C. Durant Esq Dr Sir It mortifies me very much to appear before you again as a mendicant, but the miserable State of my poor family Compels me to do so. Since I last saw you, Sir, I was obliged to work for a small sum in the week as Copyist which scarcely was adequate to keep us from starvation; Consequently, I am now poor and has no hopes of a Situation till after the Holidays. I hope God will prolong your life & make you prosperous if you relieve us in this hour of misery. Yours truly John Neyland 19 yrs clerk to T W Ogden
