Memorandum of agreement entered into July 13
1854 between Ernest Haeusser  and Thomas C. Durant
The said Haeusser agrees to go to the "Long Mine," Union
County. N.C. without delay; to take the position of mining
Captain, and to discharge all the duties of the same to the best
of his skill industry & ability, for the term of two months from 
the date hereof.
The said Durant agrees to pay said Haeusser  at the rate 
of Eighty dollars per month for the said specified term, as well as
to pay his travelling expenses to the mine from this City, and his 
expenses ahead incurred  in coming on from Baltimore.
The said Haeusser is to keep a full and accurate account, 
of the mines coming with his hand by order or on account of said 
Durant. 

          In witness whereof the said parties have hereto set their 
          hands
