Charlotte Feb 1st /56 Dear Brother I left the mine about one oclock yesterday took a team along with me to take back [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] tho [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] but I was 5 hours on the road. Mr Downing left Charlotte in the morning for the [illegible] but I did not see him I expect he was to [illegible] for his [illegible] if he had [illegible] over to [illegible] [illegible] he would have seen me. He came into Charlotte night before last what his business I do not know I am looking for [illegible] every day [illegible] [illegible] Yours W. [illegible] Durant
