Tuesday July 31st 1883 I fixed up our things and helped Vene about the breakfast. Jim did not to go work early but took us to the depot. Vene went along and Esther and [Rie?] were there. Will waved a good bye from in front the store. We had a three hour wait in Peoria and went up town for a little while. The ride from Peoria was unpleasant in the extreme with dust and smoke. We arrived at Burlington at eight oclock. Charlie was at the depot and we went directly to Mifs Lewis and had our suppers. There was a couple of ladies there from South hill that the boys took home. All hands went to bed soon after their return.
