3-1-31-16 I do not regret the connection we are in a swamp now but as soon as it is cleared think that we will get clear out of the woods. Although to do as we should have to ascend a steep ridge - things are not so bright nor [illegible] the soon get sufficiently cheery to justify more than 50 cents ? for the stock - yet I would take bad and old debts at that rate - I took Roomans receipt for the balance of his years salary in paying him the 6 mos ? - since then we have ? over matters he soon saw the necessity of his leaving and I do not anticipate any difficulty whatever in making ?? arrangement with him for the $3,000 bonus - I shall give him his 15 days notice today Yours truly (illegible)
