5.  Sink the No 1 South Shaft with a Small five employ as few high priced men as possible you will not want to exceed three or four good Cornish Miners Some of whom should understand Pit Turk and make up the balance of your force with good North Carolina miners at low wages, I do not think you will have to advance the wages, now paid for any of the men still you must have one or two men who thoroughly understand this business.
6.  Reduce the force on the Surface to as few men as possible and have yours work done well and promptly.
7.  In case one can be obtained from the Tiller Shaft in a quantity that will pay put a small force there and put up a furnace that will ventilate it.  Brick can be obtained from the McCulloch for the purpose.  You may find that while you are getting the Pump down you have two or three men to spare for a few days these you can put in the willie shaft at once and try the experiment - advise me as to the amount of ore you obtain from that place and I will give you instructions as how and when to treat it - Save all the sands, Run the sands, at the Lindsay Mills
