23 To make a beautiful paint for Walls of Staircases and Lobbies To destroy Bugs Infuse in one Quart of Spirit of Wine 1 1/2 oz of [Sublim?] Mercury and one oz of bitter apple in an earthen pot 24 Hours, then with a Brush, brush all the Crevises and every where that Bugs may be found - NB This infusion is rank Poison a Bath to Cure the Rheumatism A few warm grains (from a Brewer) thrown into the bottom of a Tub, let the patient stand upon these, and then let a quantity of more Grains be thrown around him as high as the parts affected and let the patient remain in that situation for a quarter of an hour at a time - from the use of this Bath the most beneficial effects have been produced in violent Rheumatic Complaints [left margin] [illegible]
