47 Mrs. Barn of Farington [Hasets?] Chairman's Embrocation One Quart of Spirits of Rosemary 4 oz of Castila Soap [sliced?] very thin 2 oz of Camphor put into a Bottle set this before or near the Fire and shake it two or three times a day till the Soap & Camphor are dissolved then add a pint and a half of Bullocks Gall, quite fresh. shake this well and when it has [stood?] to be quite clear sack it off for use - apply this remedy as ordinary linement to the hand & joints a very good embrocation for stranis or bruises - M Law's method of making Ink (black) 1 July 1844 Aleppo Galls crashed (or bruised) 1 lb 2/4 Green Copperas - 4 oz -/2 Logwood Chips - 4 oz 1 Alum - (in powder) - 1 oz 1 Gum Arabic - 4 oz 8/3/4 put these into a stone Bottle which will hold (be certain) a gallon ([illegible]) and fill it with boiling Water afterwards let it stand near a Fire for six Weeks stirring [crossed out] (or shaking) it every day for a For't'night, when it will be fit for use [left margin] Clarence Howe Chelsea To make Blue Ink from a Recipe of the same Gentleman oxalic acid (poisno) - 8 Drams 4 Prussian Blue - 4 Drams 3 7 to which add 1 1/2 paint of best distilled Water. shake it all together, and the liquor will form a beautiful blue Ink such as no Governor need dispise [left margin] [Late?] of Chelsea Clarence Howe
