49 R. [Piz?] Rhei - C U+2125 divide in Pil. XII 1 dram one or two to be taken occasionally p. 2.22 - or in English comp d Pil of Rhubarb 1 dram WE [left margin] 16 May 1845 To make mock Cream for Tea, Coffee or [Poultrey?] Rub down very smooth a Teaspoonful of Arrow Root in a little cold milk, then beat up the yolk of an Egg & mix with it, pour the foregoing into half a pint of boiling Milk, and before serving strain it through a clean seive M Collins [left margin] Mrs. Collins Northiam Farthing's tto Sussex an American Recipe for the cure of Rheumatism in Duplicate on page 16/- Gum Guaiacum in fine powder 2 oz Nitre - dt - 2 oz This is essential as it will not dissolve put the above mentioned Guaiacum & Nitre into a pint of old Rum let it stand in a Bottle (not corked close) by the chimney Corner or any other warm place, ten days or a fortnight, shaking the Bottle several times a day, it will be in some manner fit for use at that period, but the longer it is kept the better it is, [illegible] the end of one year it is infinitely more effectual - Dose Take two teaspoonsful at Bed time in a cup of Gruel or a glassful of white wine and swallowed as fast as possible as otherwise it will adhere to the Cup or Glass; repeat this for ten Nights, or if the fit is obstinate, till it is entirely conquered it is an alterative and acts slowly, but in Rheumatism never fails if persisted in, it requires no confinement [illegible] brings on sensible perspiration which is rarely the Case.
