D Longlands- For the unexampled kindness you you have Shown to hon John Coombs in consequence of my solicitation on his behalf I beg of you to accept my warmest acknowlegements and I was in the fondest hopes that the hon fellow would have got some permanent appointment upon the Establishment of the West India Dock Company but for a distressing letter I received from him this Morning I am acquainted that notwithstanding your benevolent recommendation of him to the officers in the WI Docks he is now again out of employment - but he informs me he is daily in attendance at the MI Docks in hopes to obtain employment, altho he writes that he has walked 270 Miles since I last addressed you he has only obtained four Days Work now my dear Sir! as I know the Man to be strictly Sober and Industrious, I am induced again to trespass upon your invaluable time and to request that you would be [pleased?] to exert your powerful Interest with [illegible] to get him a Card for general employment and I am confident [from?] what the [illegible] of the poor Devil that he will do ample [illegible] to the Company - and in so doing will be enabled to support himself & family
