January 1st 1881 Rather a busy new years' day we worked very hard all day changing things around some and getting ready for the boys to come back. Hattie is some better today. I did a little mending in the evening. January 2nd 1881 We were very late with the work this morning Mrs Middleton came over and Mother went to take a little sleigh ride while she would stay in with Hattie. I had only just begun to get the dinner when Aunt Em and the children with Grandma came. They stayed till about four oclock. Will & Esther and the Hobson girls called in the afternoon. Otto went to the valley. Monday January 3rd 1881 I cleaned up the two south rooms this morning and did quite a washing. Mr Day and I went down in the lower part of town to get a girl but was disappointed. When we got back Mr Sherwood who came back today
