For Knitting a Shawl   Set on 4 stitches. Make a stitch & knit plain row - continue this till 8 on needle - then on encreasing side make a stitch knit one, wool forwd slip one knit 2 & bring slipped one over the 2 Again, wool forwd slip one, knit two, & bring the slipped one over continue this till 4 remain, to be left knitted plain for border - every other row a pearled row - When there is an odd stitch before the 4 for border make a stitch by passing wool forwd before knitting it this ought to be the case every 4th row On the border side to make a chain edge do not knit last stitch but merely pass the wool round it - 
Fringe  Set on 6 stitches wool double Make a stitch take 2 wool forward take 2 & so on every row - fasten off 3 stitches pull out the rest -
Another Fringe  9 stitches wool double Pearl a row taking off first stitch next row slip first wool over needle take 2 wool over take 2 & so on - every other row pearled - fasten off 5 stitches on the pearled row & pull out the rest.
