January, SUNDAY, 12 1862. This is another very cold day and I am prevented from attending Church by an attack of a very severe cold caught on my expedition up North but my 2 unkles and children are gone to the 1st. U.P. Church---- This appears to me to be a very long day indeed I am so lonesome and have got the blues. My eyes are so sore I cannot read and I have to sleep and sit around till I get weary of it. but this day is drawing to a close and I am so glad I shall soon be able to go to bed and tomorrow will be a new day. I think I will try and go to Church to night
