May Tuesday, 27, 1862. This is a very Dull rainy morning and I think will be so all day. We had a very pleasant time at Mr Higgins Last evening the best of Music and we all enjoyed it very mutch. Mr. Cleaves has just gone over to the Hotel to order a bill of Dry goods of Mr. Bliss. We kneed a few goods very mutch. I wish I could get to order goods once I would make them come. the mail brought the news to day that our army ware repulsed and driven back at Winchester Va. with considerable loss This is very unwelcome news to us Indeed, but cannot be of long duration.
