Camp 154th,, N.Y.V. In the Field Saturday July 9th,,1864 Dear Friends and companions in Leon Today is a day of rest and we are improving it some, or as well as we can. I have just come from the Creek where I have been washing all my clothes and myself. I have got one Shirt and that I washed and boiled with my pants and put on again to dry. I boiled every thing so now I have not got a live Louse on me, which I could not have said yesterday. I think I wrote you the last time about the 26th,, of June and now I will commence for another and tell you something what we have been doing. the 28th,, as you will probaly see in the papers an assault was made on the Rebel position at Kenesaw Mountain our Div did not loose many then or in any day since that day and since then we our Regt has lost one Killed and three wounded, the one Killed was in Co. E. from (Vertically, from bottom right:-) Chatauque (Upside-down, at head of page:-) I have just been to dinner and will tell you what I had for dinner some plain Gravy hard Tack and Coffee Dont you wish you had some. We have plenty such as it is but not much (Vertically, at top left:-) I will write soon more on an other Sheet.
