The night of the 2d,, of July the Rebels were flanked and retreated. the 3rd,, we followed on and I never saw such a Streaming in our lines of Rebel deserters since Bragg was ousted from Mision Ridge last Nov our Brigade picked up about one hundred and twenty five, probaly a larger proportion than the rest of the Army for we were on a main road and near the woods where they could hide from their Officers. they said that they were sick of fighting and retreating all of the time for two months well it has been tiresome for us but not so much so as for them for they are expecting an attact from us all the time and have to build Earthworks and lay on their arms all night, not so with us we are not affraid of them attacting us much. There has not been a day since the 8th,, of May but we have either canon or musketry and only three days but what we have heard musketry then was when we were at Kingston.
