Camp. Wickliff Ky Jan 7th 1862 Mrs Sarah Davis. Dear dear wife Again I take my seat to address you a few line to say that I am in the enjoyment of as good health as I ever enjoyed in my life hoping this will find you and all the rest able to say as much. I received the letter that you and Orrilla wrote. some 4 or 5 days since but for various reasons I have neglected to answer it until now. I presume that perhapse you have heard ere this that we have the Small pox among us. So I will tell you the straight of the matter. James Stovall of our company was taken sick several days since but no one knew what ailed him until yesterday morning he was badly broke out and the Dr. pronounced it the small pox and you better believe there was consternation in camp during the remainder of the day. So in the afternoon he was ordered to be moved away from
