In Camp Near Boling Green Ky. Feb 28th 1862 Mrs Sarah Davis My dear wife One more I will address you to let you now my whereabouts and to acquaint you of my excellent good health. It begins to seem like an age since I heard from you as the last letter that I have received from you was dated the 9th Inst. which is the longest time I have ever been without hearing from you since I have been in the Service. There are a great many letters following us and some one gets letters evry evening but it seems mine have not got here yet. on Monday morning last at 8 oclock we ware ordered to Strike tents and move from our pleasant camp at Munfordville but owing to the delay of getting our provision we did not get Started until 1 Oclock P.M. when we Started across the country towards Glascow when after marching 8 miles we come to the New Haven and Glascow turnpike which we followed about 4 miles and encamped at a place called the Bear Wallow but why it is called I cannot tell, as there is no town near there. We arrived at the camping ground at Sunset which was good marching making 12 miles over mud roads with verry heavy loaded teams as we had 5 days provision in the wagons besides the regular amount of Company baggage. It fell to my lot to be Officer of the Guard that day and I received a verry sever reprimand from Col Wagner because I let a drunken Soldier abuse me who was put in charge of the guards. He first ordered me to gag him by tieing a bayonet in to this mouth. I had already drawn it so tight that it had cut his mouth so that the blood was running out at each corner but Still he managed to talk enough to abuse me verry badly and then the Col said if I did not draw it tight enough to Stop his gab he would prefer charges against me and have me Court martialed. After that he did not talk much more for some time I assure you, but it was a painful job for me
