In Camp Near field of Shiloh Tenn May 2n. 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis Dear Wife In haste I write you this morning. We are preparing to march with 7 days rations and no baggage but what we can carry except 2 tents to each Company. Therefore evrything I will be able to take will be my Overcoat and Gum blanket. We have been gradually moveing on towards Corinth for several days. a mile or two at a time and our Division is now within 10 miles of the place. The rumor is now in Camp that the enemy has Evacuated the place and leaving for the South but how true it is I do not know but one thing is evident if they have not left that place there will be a hard battle fought there before this reaches you. And no doubt but
